Graduated in Civil Engineering (1957), from B M S College of Engineering, Bangalore. Did post graduate course, in Hydrological Methods for Developing Water Resource Management, in BUDAPEST (HUNGARY)
Er. Rao worked in many Major and Medium Irrigation Projects of Andhra Pradesh, from formulation, which include Nagarjunasagar Multipurpose Project, Srisailam Hydel Project, and Vamsadhara Project, in various capacities and retired on super annulation, in October 1993. Visited Europe and Egypt to study the Irrigation Practices, to implement them in Andhra Pradesh.
Associated with National Institute of Amateur Radio, (NIAR) a Non-Government Organization of unique reputation in providing communication facilities, during the hour of need to all, in and outside the Country to combat natural disasters like Cyclones, Earthquakes, Floods etc. for more than three decades. Attended 19th Annual South East Asia Network Convention (SEANET 91- HAM Convention) in THAILAND, as Vice Chairman of NIAR
He was the First All India President of the Institution of Engineers (India), from Andhra Pradesh, in the year 2002-2003. a Century old, largest and Prestigious Professional Body in the Country, having 131 Centers including 6 Overseas Chapters and about Two lakh Corporate Members
He was the Secretary General of Federation of Engineering Institutions of South & Central Asian Countries, (FEISCA), during 2003 – 2005
He was the Indian Member of World Federation of Engineering Institutions (WFEO), during 2003 – 2005
He was instrumental in getting recognition of Membership of the Engineers Mobility Forum (EMF), a World Renowned Body, during the International Conference in Rotorua, New Zealand, which facilitates cross boarder movement of Engineers, for practicing their profession in the member countries
He represented India and participated in various International Conferences, in many Countries in Europe, Egypt, U.S.A, U K, Thailand, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Tunisia, China, Puerto Rico, Hong Kong, etc. (and also for signing some Bilateral Agreements)
He organized and presided over the World Mining Congress, where His Excellency Dr. A. P. J Abdul Kalam, the then President of India, was the Chief Guest and delegates from about 40 Countries participated.
He was felicitated with “PRATHIBHA RAJIV PIRASKAR”, for his achievements, by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, during the presentation of Nandi Awards, on 14th February, 2009, a rare honor and recognition to Engineers, for the first time
He is now the Honorary Advisor to the Engineering Staff College of India (ESCI), a Learning Centre for Practicing Engineers, Scientists and Managers;
Er G L Rao, while excelling the materialistic life, was in search of a system that could help him grow spiritually. After practicing various spiritual systems, he joined SHRI RAM CHANDRA MISSION, which teaches Heartfulness Meditation, a practical way to transcend suffering and fly into sky of hope and contentment, thus helping transformation of human beings and has been following the same since nearly three decades. He is also one of the trainers to teach Heartfulness Meditation.
